According to the World Health Organization, 27% of people have sleep problems. In order to raise awareness of the importance of sleep improvement, the global sleep and health program sponsored by the international mental health organization launched a global event in 2001, which designated March 21, the first day of spring, as "world sleep day".

According to market research in six cities in China, the prevalence of insomnia in adults is as high as 57% in one year. According to the results of the "survey of sleep status of doctors in various departments" jointly conducted by the psychiatrist branch of Chinese Medical Association and Sanofi Aventis, the survey surveyed 1914 doctors in 30 hospitals across the country. The results showed that 69.4% of doctors had sleep disorders in 2002. In 2003, the Chinese Sleep Research Association officially introduced world sleep day into China.

This year is the 16th world sleep day. The theme of this year is "good sleep, let go of dreams". The reporter learned from the mental health center of Linyi city that the number of people seeking treatment for sleep disorders is increasing gradually. The survey shows that more than 70% of the elderly have sleep disorders, while the proportion of young people who have sleep disorders is more than 30%.

On March 21, world sleep day, Linyi mental health center launched a large-scale free clinic in front of the hospital in order to publicize and popularize the knowledge of healthy sleep and arouse the public's attention to the importance and quality of sleep. "My son is getting married in half a month. I can't sleep at night since a month ago. I always feel that there are too many things to be busy with." Mr. Wang said. At the same day's free clinic, many citizens came to ask about sleep problems.

"Sleep disorders are most common in the elderly, especially in the elderly." Zheng Shiquan, head of the public health department and chief physician of the city mental health center, said that in recent years, more and more insomnia patients have come to the outpatient consultation of the mental department of the hospital. It is understood that Linyi mental health center recently carried out a mental health survey in our city. The survey shows that more than 70% of the elderly have sleep disorders. At the same time, due to the accelerated pace of life and the improvement of people's psychological needs, the insomnia rate of young people is also on the rise. "This survey found that more than 30% of young people have sleep disorders, which is related to the current rich nightlife of young people, high expectations of material and cultural life." Said Zheng Shiquan.

Zheng Shiquan introduced that in the people with sleep disorders, the most difficult to fall asleep, followed by sleep maintenance disorders. "Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder, followed by early wake-up, because of chronic diseases and affect sleep more." Zheng Shiquan said sleep disorders are often the result of a variety of factors. However, the prevalence, development, control and treatment of sleep disorders are often a long-term process. We should encourage people and their families at risk to learn more about sleep disorders and prevent and treat diseases scientifically.
